funny though, he says, that it's not just our thoughts that determine the way that we feel when quoting Shakespeare, but then again his final conclusion is exactly that...
he indeed speaks of a few well-known psychological concepts, such as when he talks about synthesis of happiness... it's a concept commonly known as cognitive dissonance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance), which is what you may be talking about Paul, basically we always try to adjust our beliefs, feelings, etc. to make it fit with our view of the world... it's a really great concept, which when you think about it for a while you realize that we really do it all the time, like when ending a relationship, getting sick etc.
funny too, cause I have been talking to a lot of people already about that study showing that no matter what one year later we always go back to our baseline happiness, like let's say you win a million or you get your PhD... that's why (and here comes my conclusion out of all of this and on what happiness is) it is so important to live in the HERE and NOW... cause the real secret of happiness is being able of appreciating the moment, in yoga terms we could speak of contentment, ...
